10 of the best timeless Blue Dial Rolex Watches

blue face rolex watches

After decades of black dials dominating the Rolex line-up, bright colours offer people the chance to express themselves and have some fun with their watch. Rolex is no stranger to colours as shown by their legendary Stella dials. Of all the colours, no configuration is more popular than the blue dial Rolex and for good reason due to its high versatility.

10 Blue Dial Rolex Watches

Today, we pick out our ten favourite blue dial Rolex watches. Let’s begin!

1. Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36mm Blue Dial 126000

No watch stands for colour more than the Blue Dial Rolex Oyster Perpetual. The basic model from the brand offers everything that makes Rolex great without having to pretend to satisfy some niche need you will never encounter in your real life. The metallic looking sun-ray dials from the previous generation have been changed in 2020 for bright acrylic colours reminiscent of original Stella dial Day-Date models from the 1970s.

Luckily for us these models are significantly cheaper than an original Stella dial. Available in different sizes and colours, the blue dial variation (which has a turquoise tint) has to be the most striking one of the bunch.

2. Rolex Milgauss GV Electric Blue 116400GV

Few watches are more colourful than the Blue Dial Rolex Milgauss Z-Blue Dial. The orange seconds hand in the thunderbolt design pairs perfectly with the green sapphire glass.

The true highlight though is undoubtedly the dial which Rolex dubs Z-Blue and has to be experienced to be truly appreciated. With its sunray finish it has a wonderful metallic sheen to it and changes colour depending on the light conditions and angle of the watch.

Beyond just looks the Milgauss also offers some great functionality. Being part of the professional model the Milgauss was originally created for scientists. In order to be protected from being magnetised by scientific machinery it has a magnetic shield made out of special alloys which is increasingly relevant in our highly technological life filled with magnetic fields.

3. Rolex Datejust 41 Fluted Bezel Blue Dial 126334

The Datejust has for a long time been the do everything, go anywhere watch of the Rolex collection. The standard dress watch has been as much responsible for the success of the brand, if not even more so, than the legendary Submariner. The cyclops it has introduced has made for an iconic silhouette that has the perfect blend of form and function that Rolex is renowned for.

Available in 41mm it has adapted to the times yet retains its classic DNA with the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet which both do a great job capturing the sunlight. While it has a similar finish to the Milgauss the colour here is completely different to other blue dial Rolex models with a much darker navy blue colour.

4. Rolex Yacht-Master 40 Blue Dial 126622

Blue Dial Rolex Yacht-Master 40 reference 126622

The Rolex Yacht-Master 40 has long been overlooked as just a posh Submariner. This has changed as it has recently been gaining some of the appreciation it deserves for the beautiful watch that it is. With only 100 meters of water resistance I would not consider it a dive watch but it should be more than enough to satisfy all your scuba needs.

It stands out with wonderfully handsome curves on the profile of the case and lugs that hug your wrist making it one of the most comfortable watches Rolex produces.

The bezel on this watch is made completely out of platinum which is wonderful to handle and offers a polish that no steel alloy can ever match.

Available also in a Rhodium dial, we have chosen the blue dial version which is reminiscent of the waves that this watch was built to sail upon. It is matched with red design elements that gives the Rolex Yacht-Master a youthful sporty vibe. This watch offers a great mix of sporty appeal with classic design and a is a great option for our top ten choices of Rolex blue dial watches.

5. Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea James Cameron 126660

Blue Dial Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea James Cameron reference 126660

There are dive-watches, and then there are dive-watches. The Rolex Sea-Dweller belongs to the latter and is what happens when you write the story of the Submariner completely in bold text.

It takes the DNA of the classical diver and injects it with steroids to supersize it in every way possible. At 44mm in diameter and 17mm in thickness this watch is massive and takes a strong wrist to wear.

This James Cameron special edition is water-proof to 3900 meters which should be more than enough for even the deepest Jacuzzi. Made to commemorate the film directors historic dive to the bottom of the Mariana trench it features a dial that shifts from dark blue to black to reflect the shifting colour spectrum underwater.

6. Rolex Submariner Blue Dial 126613LB

Moving on to the most legendary of all watches in the entire world, the Rolex Submariner. While the steel version is traditionally only available with a black dial Rolex is willing to get a little more creative with the gold and two-tone models.

A version of this watch which is lovingly referred to as the “Bluesy” is a two-tone steel and yellow gold watch with a blue ceramic bezel and a matching blue dial.

This version has been around for a long time already, so for the vintage lovers will be happy to hear that older versions of this watch are readily available and cost less than a steel vintage submariner.

Don’t mistake the gold on this watch however for it just being a show pony, as the Submariner (regardless of its metal composition) is a serious watch that can take just about everything you throw at it. If you want to learn more about this watch be sure to check out our blog about it that you can find here. Also be sure to take a look into our shop where we usually have either the vintage or modern version of the Bluesy in stock.

7. Rolex Sky-Dweller Blue Dial 326934

Few watches are more emblematic of the blue dial craze than the stainless steel Rolex Sky-Dweller. Initially released in 2012 only in precious metals the highly complicated wristwatch was praised for its technical prowess but considered too chic and expensive for most. This changed once Rolex decided to offer it in steel and the Sky-Dweller suddenly became one of the hottest watches available, none more so than the blue dial version.

For the uninitiated, the Sky-Dweller is an annual calendar meaning it can show the month as well as always the correct date and you only need to set it once a year during the end of February. Additionally, it can display an extra time-zone to make it the perfect watch for the modern traveling gentleman.

At 42mm this is one of the larger models Rolex have in their catalogue, however, this boils down to the incredible movement that had to be fitted in this watch.

8. Rolex GMT-Master Pepsi White Gold 126719BLRO

If the Sky-Dweller was the modern traveler’s watch, the Rolex GMT-Master is its ancestral counterpart. The Pepsi, in reference to the blue and red colours used on the ceramic bezel, is one of the most iconic watches by the brand on par with the Rolex Submariner and the Rolex Daytona. Before the introduction of the Stainless steel model this bezel was only available on the white gold model.

To allow Rolex aficionados to stand out and differentiate themselves from the steel version, the white gold version was fitted with a subtle matte dark blue dial which matches the blue found on the bezel. Being made completely out of solid 18k white gold it is unsurprisingly very expensive. If you want to go under the radar and still have a reliable travel companion with the comforting heft of gold then this Pepsi is the watch for you.

9. Rolex Daytona White Gold Blue DIal 116509

Moving on to the hottest of all Rolex professional watches, the Daytona. Originally created to help race-drivers keep track of lap times and measure their speed, this watch had a bit of an identity crisis with efforts to make it a space watch to win the valuable Nasa contract that eventually the Omega Speedmaster had. Nowadays all those troubles are forgotten and the Daytona is the most in demand commodity in the watch world.

A model often overlooked in the hype surrounding the stainless steel version is the 18k white gold model with a stunning bright blue dial. Ever since being featured in the iconic 2nd instalment of Hodinkee’s talking watches episode with John Mayer this model has gotten a large surge in popularity.

10. Rolex Day-Date 40 Platinum Roman Numeral Dial 228206

Last, but certainly not least, is the Day-Date 40 made completely out of platinum. The Day-Date is famous for displaying the day and date, big surprise I know, and being only made out of precious metal. A watch known to be a favorite of heads of state all around the globe, this watch can be spotted on the wrists of significant men and women all along the last century.

As is custom with Rolex platinum watches, this model is fitted with an ice blue dial and dark blue Roman numerals. Couple this with the feel that only a solid platinum watch can give you and you have one of the most luxurious watches ever created.
