The Rolex Submariner Two Tone Black Dial reference 126613LN is part of Rolexes new release for their 2020 lineup, the most talked about aspect of the change involves the watches diameter that has increased from the traditional 40mm case found in the the previous 116610 to the revised 41mm. It might sound like very little but the differences are mainly to do with the updated proportions of the case moving away from the super case and going back to the more traditional silhouette of the much loved 5 digit references.
The Cerachrom ceramic bezel keeps the traditional Submariner dive scale, with all numerals and graduations engraved for depth then inlaid with a fine layer of platinum.
Dial has undergone very few changes with the main one being the applied diver indices, which have been reduced in size from the previous generation for a more streamlined, lighter look, along with slimmer Mercedes hands. The other noticeable change for this model is the minuscule crown emblem added to the “Swiss Made” logo at 6 o’clock, indicating the presence of the new 3235 automatic movement within.
The in-house Caliber 3235 is hardly a new sight in the Rolex lineup, having first appeared in 2015, but these releases are part of the first wave of Submariner models to use the movement. While the Submariner series is among the last of Rolex’s product lines to receive the 3235, it remains an impressively durable and technically competent power plant. With both COSC certified chronometer accuracy and Rolex’s own stringent “Superlative Chronometer” specification, this movement is expected to be accurate to within +2/-2 seconds per day, while offering a large 70-hour power reserve at a 28,800 bph (4Hz) rate.
While the changes to the overall Submariner lineup are far from huge, this is something that we have grown to expect from a very conservative brand and it is what keeps the models as timeless as they are and with the slight improvements to this model and a slimmer more traditional case it makes for a very interesting purchase proposition.
