WATCH SHOPPING IN MAASTRICHT: Juwelier Burger

Watch & Bullion

Like many cities Maastricht has two sides. Last time I introduced you to a store in the East side of the city in the part of Wyck. Today I’d like to take you however over to the West side of the river Maas to a special boutique in the centre.
There you will find the Vrijthof Square, the heart of the city. An equally integral part to the city is the distinctive Basilica of Saint Servatius and Saint Jan’s Church, with its iconic red tower that can be viewed from the square; the place of my first lecture at the European Law School.
Connecting to the square in a little alleyway we find another of my personal favourite watch stores in the city, Juwelier Burger. Located on the Platielstraat 20, you will find two floors showcasing an impressive array of both vintage and new watch models.
Entering through a styled gate displaying gears and hands, the interior speaks passion for horology at every corner. Books on famous watches stack the shelves and old advertisements decorate the room. This passion can also be found in the staff, a team of five, of whom are headed by Alfred and Monique Burger.
Their collection, which features classics from Rolex, also displays exotic watches like Albert Silberstein, thereby attracting customers from all over the world.
On the second floor, next to the storage room we find the other half of the shop. Here the web shop is managed, existing thanks to the boom in the vintage watch industry as a result of the internet.
If you are in the city, this shop is well worth a visit. But if not, make sure to check out their website here!
