It seems only fitting that Richard Mille decided to partner up with Alexander Zverev, after all, they are a lot alike. Zverev, for the uninitiated, is the current nr. three ranked tennis player in the world behind Rafael Nadal (also an RM sponsor) and Roger Federer (supported by Rolex) at only 21 years of age! Both are somewhat new to the scene and are giving the old legends a run for their money.
Being seen previously with a green Richard Mille on the field, Zverez now got his own model in a release together with French skier Alexis Pinturault, and the French Rally Champion Sébastien Ogier. Zverev’s model is colored completely in the colours of his country, Germany, and can soon be spotted on his wrist in his actual games, product placement, and extreme testing then at one.
Functionally there is nothing special. Well, when I say nothing special I mean no complications, not even a date window. Then again this time only movement is about as special as it gets. It is made out of titanium with the bridges made from either Carbon TPT and/or Quartz TPT (Thin Ply Technology). All the screws are made out of titanium too, and the rotor is made out of carbon quartz TPT with some white gold at the end to help give a bit more swing.
This 38.7 mm wide package weighs in at an incredible 32 grams, partially in thanks to the strap. Richard Mille calls it a comfort strap, meaning basically an elastic strap that you can pull over your wrist. That means that the watch will probably only fit properly on your wist, but I guess that’s a good reason to not have to lend it to other people. Another little annoyance comes from the measly 30 m water rating, sure this watch doesn’t pretend to be a dive watch but from a six-figure sports watch 100-meter water resistance should be a given.
In line with the principle “less is more” this Richard Mille is priced generously to say the least. At £103,500 this will probably not be an impulse purchase for anyone. But those who are willing to put the money on the table will be rewarded with an entry-level Richard Mille which gives a complete package of what the brand is all about.
