Rolex GMT-Master 1675 Matte Dial Full Set
This Rolex GMT-Master 1675 Matte Dial was produced circa 1973 and originally retailed by The Red House in Gibraltar in 1979. It is accompanied by an unusually complete collection of original Rolex papers, booklets, tags, accessories and a 1970s Rolex Bufkor presentation box with its matching green and gold outer box.
The watch has a 3.22-million serial number and features the correct MK2 matte tritium dial, an attractive red and blue Pepsi bezel and a vintage Rolex 6251H Jubilee bracelet. It was independently serviced in December 2022, with the service documentation and pressure-test results included.
MK2 Matte Tritium Dial
The Rolex GMT-Master 1675 Matte Dial is distinguished by its black matte surface, painted tritium hour markers and traditional four-line text above six o’clock. This example has the MK2 dial configuration associated with GMT-Master watches from this period, rather than the later collector-named radial layout.
The tritium hour markers have developed a warm and consistent vintage tone. The hands display complementary ageing, while the dial printing remains clear and well defined. At the bottom of the dial is the correct “SWISS – T < 25” designation, indicating the original use of tritium luminous material.
The watch retains its red GMT hand, Mercedes-pattern hour hand, pointed minute hand and sweep seconds hand. Its acrylic crystal is fitted with the characteristic Cyclops magnifier over the date display at three o’clock.
Pepsi Bezel and Vintage Case
The aluminium red and blue Pepsi bezel insert has developed natural fading and age-related wear. Its colours remain clearly defined, with a deep blue upper section and a lighter red lower section that gives the watch an appealing vintage appearance.
The stainless-steel case shows honest signs of use consistent with a watch of this age. Surface marks and evidence of previous polishing are visible, but the case retains a balanced profile and the crown guards remain well defined. The bezel, winding crown and case should be assessed carefully through the accompanying high-resolution photographs.
No claim is made that the watch is unpolished. Its condition is presented openly as that of a vintage Rolex that has been worn, maintained and serviced during its lifetime.
Rolex 6251H Jubilee Bracelet
This Rolex GMT-Master 1675 Matte Dial is fitted to a vintage Rolex 6251H folded-link Jubilee bracelet. The clasp is stamped “4 71”, corresponding to the fourth quarter of 1971, and the bracelet is fitted with the correct No. 50 end links.
The bracelet displays the expected movement, surface wear and ageing associated with its folded-link construction. It remains an attractive and appropriate bracelet configuration for an early-1970s GMT-Master 1675, giving the watch the comfortable and distinctive appearance for which the Jubilee bracelet is known.
The bracelet and end-link numbers are clearly photographed so that their condition and markings can be assessed before purchase.
Gibraltar Papers and 1979 Retail Date
The original Rolex papers are dated 1979 and identify The Red House in Gibraltar as the supplying retailer. Although the watch and accompanying period literature date from the early 1970s, the later retail date has an interesting historical explanation.
When contacted, The Red House advised that it offered customers payment arrangements during this period. Clients could pay for a watch in instalments over one, two or three years, with the retailer retaining the watch until the balance had been settled. This established retail practice helps to explain how an early-1970s watch could receive a later date on its papers when finally collected or formally sold.
The production period and retail date are therefore described separately and transparently: the watch was produced circa 1973, while the accompanying Gibraltar papers are dated 1979.
Boxes, Booklets, Tags and Accessories
The completeness of this Rolex GMT-Master 1675 Matte Dial is one of its most notable features. The set includes:
- Original Rolex papers dated 1979 and stamped by The Red House, Gibraltar
- 1973/74 Rolex calendar
- “Your Rolex” booklet dated 12/73, in excellent overall condition with a small tear to the final page
- Rolex GMT-Master instruction booklet coded 973-50-31.518-US
- Rolex calendar holder and document wallet coded 100.00.41
- Rolex GMT-Master model hang tag
- Mustard-coloured Officially Certified Swiss Chronometer seal with its green and gold cord
- 1970s Rolex Bufkor presentation box
- Matching green and gold Rolex outer box
- Independent service documentation from December 2022
- Pressure-test results and retained service components
The box is described specifically as a 1970s Rolex Bufkor box. The accompanying accessories should be considered carefully as part of the overall set, with their dates, codes and condition disclosed individually rather than being described collectively as original to the watch without qualification.
December 2022 Service
The Rolex GMT-Master 1675 Matte Dial was independently serviced by a member of ANPRE (National Spanish Association of Watchmakers). The accompanying documentation records the work undertaken and the pressure testing performed at that time.
The watch completed dry pressure tests at approximately -0.3 bar and +5.0 bar, with both tests recorded as “Bueno”. These results relate only to the condition of the watch when tested in December 2022. Due to its age and vintage construction, no present or continuing guarantee of water resistance is made, and the watch should not be exposed to water without further testing by a qualified watchmaker.
Condition and Collector’s Note
This is a genuine vintage watch and should not be expected to present as new. The case, bezel, bracelet, crystal and accessories all display signs of age and previous use. These details form part of its history and are shown as clearly as possible in the accompanying photographs.
What distinguishes this example is the combination of its MK2 matte tritium dial, naturally aged Pepsi bezel, vintage 6251H Jubilee bracelet, Gibraltar retail provenance and unusually extensive collection of period Rolex accessories.
For collectors seeking a Rolex GMT-Master 1675 Matte Dial with documented Gibraltar provenance and a genuinely comprehensive presentation, this is a particularly interesting and well-documented example of one of Rolex’s most enduring vintage sports-watch references.
