Classic Rolex Datejust on a very firm Jubilee bracelet with minimum stretch, case is unpolished with very sharp lugs due to little wrist time. It is accompanied by a period correct box and calendar, serial number marks it as a 1986 model with top reference number: 16030 accompanied by ORIG ROLEX DESIGN. Reason for this particular inscription above reference number is that sometime around 1980, the patent expired on the original Oyster case design as a result, Rolex had to change the wording, watches manufactured prior to 1980 will have the ‘registered design’ notation while those produced after 1982 will have the ‘original design’ designation during the period between 1980 & 1982, there was no designation one way or the other.
The Datejust combines many of Rolex’s most successful innovations, including Rolex’s two-piece, screw-down case. In 1926, the ‘Oyster’ case became the very first waterproof wristwatch case to be produced serially, as well as the first fully-integrated waterproof case overall.
Inside the watch, it houses Rolex’s calibre 3035 ‘Officially Certified Superlative Chronometer’ grade automatic movement. The mechanism features a lever escapement, 26 jewels, mono-metallic balance and KIF shock-absorber, beating at a rate of 28,800 BPH.
Dial really comes alive with its sunburst silver finish, applied index markers, with classic ‘ROLEX’ and ‘OYSTER PERPETUAL DATEJUST’ text referenced on it. The tritium dots on the T-Swiss-Made-T dial are all present, and show the same light patina as the handset.
If you are looking for a classic Rolex in great condition this is it, switching the bracelet onto a leather strap also works extremely well for this model with shades of blue and red making for great contrasts, at 36mm it is just as suitable for Gents just as it is for Ladies.
