Ressence was started in 2010 by Benoît Mintiens, an industrial designer who worked on high-speed trains, aircraft cabins, and medical devices. Their watches are most famous for their unique dials and the unusual way that they move.

They use a series of discs to display time in the way a regulator-style watch would. One of the things that stands out the most from this watch is the dials flatness, which gives it a unique look that really needs to be seen in person to fully appreciate.

Attention to detail is what the the Type 1 Squared is all about, this grey dial version is a little sleeker looking than the more common night blue dial but I guarantee you will still catch yourself looking at it more than you ever expected.

The case itself is mostly mirror polished, but the case back features a satin finish. Like the rest of Ressence’s watches, the Ressence Type 1 Squared watch has no crown and relies on Ressence’s unique case back winding system and a small retractable lever to set the time, day, and to wind the watch.

As a dress watch, it is also Ressence’s slimmest watch yet, featuring a case diameter of 41mm and a case thickness of 11.5mm. This makes it less chunky than its predecessors and a lot more wearable.

The watch is in unused condition with its original factory leather strap in brown that is perfect for formal wear and an additional grey strap that gives it a more casual look that can be paired with any occasion. It comes complete with box, documentation, and all pertaining accessories.
