Description

In recent years the Omega Seamaster has become one of my favourite suggestions for an entry level allrounder watch. The reasons for this lie on the hand. Not only is it Omega’s longest-running product line, but it is also arguably the most versatile one in the entire industry. The concept is simple, following the Second World War designs from Submarines where used as an inspiration to utilise an O-ring gasket to ensure the watches are waterproof and hence capable of mastering the seas.

Of the countless different models I already had the privy to watch and wear, this specific model has to be one of my favourites by virtue of it’s striking purple dial. Equipped with a radiant sunburst finishing the colour shifts in response to what angle you look at it from. When looked at from the side the colour is very dark and makes for a matte black purple. Look at it straight on under the sun though and the colour will jump at you exposing details you were never aware of before.

The calibre driving this watch is automatically wound and it comes with a date function. One thing that set the Seamaster cosmic apart is that the case back is solid and the watch is opened by removing the slightly domed acrylic crystal. The strap is out of metal with a simple folding clasp, and design wise very similar to the bracelet you can find on a Speedmaster. Overall the watch is in great condition, with only minor scuffs on the bracelet side near the clasp and the back side of the lugs which are not visible while wearing. The tritium lume has lost its glow but not its charm, though it has to be mentioned that the lume on the hands has been coloured in black. All this comes together to make for an incredible watch that manages to combine the vintage appeal that Omega is known for with a design that has lost nothing of its youth.
