Local fashion designer Paul Perez has been appointed to represent Gibraltar as an ambassador for an international luxury eyewear company.

Palo Wood was born as a brand in Barcelona and now operates out of Amsterdam, the products count on endorsements from UNESCO’s plant a tree foundation and youth development program.

Palo is now present in over 25 locations around the world and the company continues to grow. Each piece is individually hand crafted and fitted with Carl Zeiss lenses. Celebrities such as Colin Firth and Halle Berry amongst others have been pictured wearing the product. The company pride themselves on being both environmentally and socially conscious in their production methods as well as in the markets they operate.

The ambassadors are required to be inspiring individuals who have a story to tell, who in turn can represent the company’s ethos and thereby promote the brand in their respective markets. Ambassadors must have the ‘Wood Attitude’, meaning people who ‘follow their instincts, take risks and push themselves beyond their limits’. Jordan Ferro, Owner at Watch & Bullion, the official commercial distributor of Palo for Gibraltar, Israel and Kenya, says ” Once we understood what the company were looking for, we could only think of Paul”.

Perez is a graduate of Fashion from the University of the Creative Arts-Epsom in the United Kingdom. In 2014 Paul was the winner of the new designer competition hosted by Runway, Gibraltar’s annual Fashion Show. His winning collection was then showcased at the prestigious Brighton Fashion Week and received much praise and admiration. Paul is a leader locally in Fashion design, trends and styles. Paul said in reaction to the proposal “I am absolutely flattered and I’m extremely proud to have been approached, I recognise it is an incredibly unique opportunity. The Palo ethos of genuinely caring for the environment and actively giving back, made it clear, that this is right for me.” His models will be sporting Palo shades on the catwalk on Thursday 16th of July at the 2015 Runway Fashion Show, this will be his first direct cooperation with the brand.
